Dr. Alkhoury’s interest in the field of orthodontics was piqued when he was just 17 years old. At that time, his older sister got braces, and the positive impact it had on her made a lasting impression on him. All of these years later (almost 30, to be exact!), and he’s still just as passionate about helping those in his treatment chair have the same phenomenal experience.
Dr. Alkhoury earned his dental degree at Boston University. After graduating with honors, he finally got to make his dream of becoming an orthodontist a reality by completing a residency in Advanced Education in Orthodontics as well as Dentofacial Orthopedics. Year after year, he continues to pursue advanced training so he knows all about the latest advancements in dentistry and orthodontics. Plus, he is an active member of several professional organizations, like the American Dental Association, and has been recognized by the American Academy of Orthodontists!
Naturally, life in and outside of the office for Dr. Alkhoury revolves around orthodontics. However, he has lots of other interests as well, including spending time with family, traveling, and cheering on his favorite team, the Red Sox!

Even if we can’t see you that day, there’s a good chance we can schedule an appointment within a day or two.
What level of education is required to be an orthodontist?
The road to becoming an orthodontist begins after high school. Typically, they earn their undergraduate degree in a major that’s heavy in math and science. Then, they must apply to (and be accepted to) one of 67 accredited dental schools in the U.S. To earn their dental doctorate, they need to complete three years of in-classroom and hands-on training. Following graduation and becoming a licensed dentist, they must complete additional training on orthodontics specifically, which can take another three years. Even then, their studies are far from over since they need to complete continuing education hours annually.
