Your First Visit
Every person who visits our orthodontic office is met with a happy greeting from our front office team member when they first arrive. We will ask you to fill out a few new patient forms, unless you’ve already done so ahead of time. These help us get to know you and your orthodontic needs better. Soon enough, you’ll meet with one of our orthodontists to discuss your smile goals. After completing a brief exam, we will talk about specific treatments we think will best address you and your family members’ orthodontic needs.
New Patient Forms
For every new patient that comes into our orthodontic office, we want to make sure that we are taking care of all your needs upfront. Tips to Manage Common Orthodontic Emergencies
It’s always better to give our orthodontic office a call as soon as possible. Just like you would for a dental emergency, it’s better to call sooner rather than later so we can provide helpful advice and get you scheduled right away for a visit. The good news is there are many ways to address orthodontic emergencies before you arrive. These tips can be found below. With that said, you should never wait to call our orthodontic office directly for help and always schedule emergency appointments the same day when they occur.

Broken Bracket
Push the bracket gently back into place with a cotton ball if it is still attached. Next, cover it with orthodontic wax so that it stays in place. You can find orthodontic wax at most major grocery stores and pharmacies. Rinse your mouth out with saltwater. This way, any cuts or sores that have occurred will heal faster. Make sure to avoid all sticky and/or hard foods.
Poking Wire
Push the wire flat with a Q-tip so it’s against the tooth. Cover it with relief wax. This step is ideal if the wire cannot be pushed into a more comfortable spot. You can also clip the wire using a pair of nail clippers as a last resort. Just make sure to catch the clipped wire with either tissue or a gauze.
Oral Pain & Soreness
When you have your braces affixed for the first time or tightened, it’s normal to experience a small amount of discomfort for a day or two. If you experience soreness, make sure you are rinsing your mouth out with warm saltwater and sticking to a soft diet. However, if soreness continues for longer than two days, take an over-the-counter pain reliever and call our orthodontic office as soon as possible.
